All of your personal information is protected within our secure server, and will not be shared with any outside companies. By using firewalls, passwords, and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, we can assure the safety of your financial and personal information, and guarantee confidentiality between you and your therapist.
Confidentiality:
Any information revealed to your therapist cannot be revealed to anyone else unless it falls under any of the following criteria:
- There is consent from the patient, parent, or guardian that disclosed information be shared.
- There is suspected child abuse or other criminal behavior putting the patient’s safety in jeopardy.
- The patient is suicidal or homicidal, or deemed to be a serious threat to harm themselves or others.
- The therapist is subpoenaed by the court and legally ordered to do so.
If there is any other reason to breach confidentiality, it must first be discussed with the patient. Otherwise, I am obligated as a licensed social worker not to disclose to anyone the contents of our online conversations or emails, all of which will be saved for approximately seven years time.
Online therapy may not be appropriate for everyone.
In cases of severe mental problems such as thoughts of suicide, please dial 911 and ask to be transferred to a suicide hotline, or if necessary visit a local hospital.
If you are currently in the middle of a serious emotional crisis or suffering from an extreme mental disorder, it is best to seek immediate help from a nearby mental health professional. |
